The pursuit of a Doctorate in Law marked a transformative phase in my academic journey. During my Ph.D. studies at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Chandigarh University, I delved into complex areas of International Law, specifically focusing on International Criminal Law and Human Rights. The comprehensive research I conducted laid the groundwork for my exploration of crimes against humanity, a subject that remains central to my ongoing academic and professional work. My doctoral research also examined the intersection of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence with international legal frameworks, a topic that continues to evolve in relevance. This academic period was pivotal in shaping my scholarly identity, honing my analytical skills, and expanding my understanding of global legal systems.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to Chandigarh University and the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS). My experience at this esteemed institution was nothing short of transformative. The department's commitment to fostering critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and global perspectives provided me with an intellectual environment that was both challenging and inspiring. I am particularly grateful to my doctoral advisor, whose guidance and mentorship helped refine my research and provided invaluable insights into the complexities of international law. The encouragement I received from the faculty and fellow scholars played a crucial role in shaping my academic approach, pushing me to explore new dimensions in legal research.
The resources provided by UILS, including access to comprehensive legal databases, research materials, and academic workshops, were instrumental in facilitating my research. The department’s emphasis on research excellence and the support I received for my scholarly endeavors allowed me to focus deeply on my topic and develop a nuanced understanding of international criminal law. Moreover, the opportunity to collaborate with students and faculty from diverse academic backgrounds enriched my work, as it encouraged me to approach legal questions from various perspectives.
I would also like to express my appreciation for the vibrant academic community at Chandigarh University. The university's diverse and intellectually stimulating atmosphere fostered meaningful discussions and cross-disciplinary learning, enabling me to engage in conversations that transcended the boundaries of my specific field of study. The seminars, conferences, and academic events organized by the university provided an excellent platform for me to present my work, exchange ideas with experts in the field, and refine my research.
My doctoral journey was not just an intellectual pursuit but also a time of personal growth. The challenges I faced during this period – from formulating research questions to analyzing complex legal issues – were integral to shaping my academic and professional identity. I am immensely grateful for the opportunities I had to engage in critical discussions and to refine my ideas through feedback from my mentors and peers. These experiences have influenced my approach to research, teaching, and practice, and continue to inspire me as I move forward in my career.
The interdisciplinary nature of my research, particularly the exploration of AI in the context of international law, has become a focal point of my academic and professional work. I look forward to continuing my exploration of this field, particularly as new developments in technology present both challenges and opportunities for the legal world. The foundation laid during my Ph.D. studies will continue to guide me as I work towards advancing legal scholarship and contributing to the development of international law in the 21st century.
